В 1979 году Рэнди Козенс (Randy Cozens), мод старой школы, завсегдатай клуба The Scene на заре 60х, составил список 100 лучших мод-записей для журнала Sounds. Его целью было напомнить о корнях возрождающегося мод-движения, дать ему нечто, что выделило бы его из волны панк рока конца 70х. Одного угара на концертах таких молодых групп, как The Jam, The Jolt и The Buzzcocks было явно не достаточно. Не парка и не скутер делают мода модом. Надо было обязательно вспомнить то, что делало движение сильным и самостоятельным - настоящую мод-музыку золотой эры, не теряющую десятилетиями актуальности на танцполе, и уникальный стиль в одежде и танцах. Ведь моды - это не только группы, это не развлечение в клубе на вечер. Моды - это образ жизни.

Не стоит относиться к Mod Top 100 как к чарту, так как песни в нем расположены в совершенно случайном порядке. Это скорее список треков, которые должен знать и любить каждый, кто называет себя модом. И каждая из этих песен имеет право занимать первое место.
